CliniPower LLP are delighted to announce their latest expansion at their facility at Avonmouth near Bristol. As from the beginning of June, our brand-new sterilisation plant will be fully operational, giving hazardous and clinical waste producers across the South West a sustainable one stop shop for a wide variety of waste streams. As you may know, we already operate a pyrolysis plant on the site which has seen a great deal of investment and improvement over the past 18 months, and is now established as a viable alternative for the south west’s waste producers.
The new sterilisation process will be powered completely from the pyrolysis plant, which is not only a big plus for sustainability, but also means that CliniPower is now able to pursue the possibility of offering economically viable treatment for offensive waste. As no fossil fuels are used to power the steriliser, offensive waste, (EWC 180104) in spite of being classed as non-hazardous, can be processed through the plant and be shipped as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). As many NHS trusts and private companies are looking towards zero landfill, this is a huge step forward in landfill diversion for this historically problematic waste stream. We are currently awaiting the EA ruling on this so watch this space for future developments!
